Biography

Edward Burke is a research fellow on EU foreign policy and defence at the Centre for European Reform.
From 2010 to 2011 he was Deputy Head of the International Police Co-ordination Board-Secretariat in Kabul, Afghanistan. Edward previously worked as a Researcher at the Foundation for International Relations (FRIDE) in Madrid, Spain from 2007 to 2010 focusing on EU policies towards political reform and security in the Middle East. Edward has contributed to a number of books, most recently a chapter on EU-Iraq relations published by Johns Hopkins University Press. He is the co-editor of Next Generation Ireland a book of essays written by young Irish policy analysts with the objective of addressing the causes of Ireland’s recent political and economic crisis that was published in 2011.
He is a regular contributor to a wide range of international media, including writing opinion pieces for The Guardian, the Irish Times and El Pais. Edward holds a BA in Modern History from Trinity College Dublin and a MA in War Studies from King’s College London.
